Harrow Community Transport and the Community Hubs: The vital link

Harrow Community Transport have been supporting four of Harrow Giving’s community hubs this year, making sure that transport is not a barrier to anyone taking part.

They have been providing support to our community hubs. One of the people they’ve helped is Mrs F, who suffered nerve damage after experiencing domestic abuse and now relies on a walker. She struggles to walk far or use public transport, so Harrow Community Transport’s help, made possible with funding from Harrow Giving, means she has been able to access a wide range of sessions including body conditioning, self-defence, dance, nutrition talks, mental health workshops, digital skills classes and more! Mrs F has reported real improvements to her wellbeing and often speaks about how much she values the chance to relax, learn and socialise.

“The chair yoga was excellent! It made me feel really relaxed and calm. The art and craft making is my therapy—rewarding and fun to do. I also enjoyed meeting new ladies and making friends”

Harrow Community Transport is so much more than a taxi-service. Unlike other forms of transport, drivers not only assist passengers into the vehicle but also engage with them in a warm, sociable way that makes the journey itself part of the community experience. They are reliable, affordable and accessible, making the most vulnerable members of the Harrow community feel safe to venture outside. For many, Harrow Community Transport has removed the barrier of distance and mobility, transforming something that once felt impossible, such as visiting a warm hub, into a regular, positive part of their lives.
