A chance to interact with people
EKTA in Harrow is a small community group formed by like-minded volunteers to support Mental Health Service Users in the South Asian communities, with 75 members consisting mainly of vulnerable and elderly Harrow Residents.
EKTA in Harrow hosts regular activities that include:
- Holding 3 hour monthly events with a full vegetarian lunch
- Planning for group outings in the summer
- Diwali celebrations and Christmas party
The group provides a platform for members to socialise whilst doing an activity, as many live on their own and are lonely.
As a result of COVID-19, the organisation had been unable to hold its regular monthly events, which had affected the well-being of members. The facilities available at the Harrow Recreation Grounds gave them an opportunity to meet regularly. The Members felt these group meetings have enabled them to gain a bit of normality during these unprecedented times with the chance to interact with people.
The Green Pavilion provided a venue where Digital Training (funded by National Lottery, Harrow Council & Harrow Giving) was given to members and once that was over, a weekly knitting and other activities were started which gave the members a platform to socialise with familiar faces in a safe environment.
