Greater London Youth Foundation Presents FAMDEMIC!

Who are the Greater London Youth Foundation?

The GLYF (Greater London Youth Foundation) is a charity set up to help young people to advance in life through the provision of recreation and leisure time activities. We design the programmes to improve and develop skills, esteem, confidence, and capabilities to enable young people to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.

What were they funded for?

GLYF currently runs a debating workshop, Debating on Zoom, every Wednesday at 5.30 p.m. Here young people learn the skills of formal debating but also learn about social issues. They get a chance to meet other young people from diverse backgrounds. They share views and listen to the opinions of others. Our Online Drama Workshops offer young people the opportunity to write and perform their own productions. OLD takes place every Sunday at 11.00 a.m. Our weekly podcast, the Greater London Youth Foundation, Presents The Mikey Bharj Show showcases young people doing great things for their community. With the help of Harrow Giving, we have been able to write and perform a series of skits to help to reduce Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy. We produced three versions of FAMDEMIC with different actors in each. The plays were observations of all the things heard and seen about the pandemic (family disagreements, fake news, grief, and so on). You can view these on our website. Two of our participants, Aixa and Buket, were nominated for a Jack Petchey Award because they attended each week, wrote good scripts and included others in the group. The challenge was that the whole production took place on Zoom.
